MSCI, which provides market indices and other tools for investors, has launched five thematic indices that track long-term “megatrends”, such as growth of “smart cities”, “disruptive technology” and “Millennials”.

These trends are chosen for how they will shape future economic and investment developments, MSCI said in a statement yesterday. 

The new indices add to MSCI’s existing thematic index suite of four indexes focused on cybersecurity, robotics, ageing societies and efficient energy. 

“It is widely acknowledged that there are a number of megatrends which will significantly impact the global economy and societies around the world, and we’re seeing increasing demand from investors seeking to align their investments to these long-term themes,” Stephane Mattatia, head of index products EMEA and global thematic index products at MSCI, said.
